MAX DAMAGE
the combat wombat
Budget sculpt using a casting of the existing Hengis figure - to be converted by degrees into a wombat of one sort or another
these first few pics are suffereing from crappymobilephonecamism, hopefully things will start to look a bit better as it all comes along; anyway, here's Hengis in an unadjusted state, and also in bits as per having been cast that way

- and next up, stuck together, with all the crapola chopped off his back, and with the beginnings of the oversculpting that'll bring him round to maximum Max-ness...

- a bit more - been digging up reference pics to get the jacket looking suitably jackety, and googling wombats now that I know Max is a common and not a hairy-nosed fella...

...the jacket's taking shape gradually...

'ere we go again, a bit more or two:

...aaand, after a bit of a hold-up, back to the old grindstone, so to speak - starting to tackle some of the twiddlier bits now by way of green, brown and grey stuffs in various amounts and/or combinations, sorting out a few bits of strap, belt, and buckly kinda bits:

- time for a bit of mutilation - fetched the ears off with a pair of snipper-offers, and then drilled into his little wombat noggin for a couple of wires that are gonna support the sculpting for some newly-positioned ones... looks a bit like a mole in the first one of these:

and now, here we go with a bit of de-hamstering, and wombatification - giving the higher-up ears a bit more of a pointed look, and levelling out the profile, also adding a chunky nose - cameraphone's doing a crap job at the moment though (yeah yeah, bad workmen/tools/etc, I know):

- as the song goes, 'more, more, more!'

- well, it's been a while since I got owt done on this fella what with one thing and another... or more accurately, several things and several others, but anyway: started to give him a bit of a grimace/frown sort of a thing, which of course this phone-camera pic barely manages to show at all (must remind meself to get a better phone, or just to take my proper camera into work. Eh well).

ereyar, this is a bit nore like it:

getting pretty close to the end of things now - gave him a squirt or two of primer to get a uniform colour on him, which makes it easier to see where any last little tweaks might need to be done - just a couple more things to sort out now and it won't be much longer 'til he's ready for a trip halfway 'round the world. I've just been musing on how 'rough' some of the bits are on the original sculpt, especially so on the gun, which at that time I made all the bits by hand - if I were making the same figure nowadays I'd be able to do some lovely crisp, sharp edges to all the 'machined' parts of the weapon and so on, you sort of wonder how you used to get away with things before all these magic lasers and stuff came along that we take for granted so much now, but eh well...

...a last few tweaks and twiddles with fiddly details like zippers and neck-furniture and the occasional missing toenail or two, and another squirt of primer has him all ready for his first look at a bit of colour, so something along them lines will be coming up not long after this lot:

- the first steps of colouring-up: base colours for the ones that are gonna be on it when it's done. The white background might have been a booboo, seems to have washed things out somewhat and you can't see the difference too well between the black of the jacket and the brown of the body - eh well, it'll be more obvious as things progress...

...and whee, the first bit of 'proper' painting gets underway, starting with a bit of bluey-whatnot for the gun and a dash of browning onto the fur...

well, he's done-y done done, all painted an' pretty, and here's some piccies just in case you're a doubtin' Tom:

- so, while he braves the dangers of the post on his way to kangarooland, here's a last couple of looks at a side-by-side with the original Mister H just so you can see play spot the difference:

Right, that's that then, I'm off for some beans on toast.
